Admin. hiring prime driver of college costs

According to a Feb. 2014 report by the Delta Cost Project, growth in size/compensation of administrators–mostly in “student services”– is what’s driving increases in college costs. Faculty salaries have been essentially flat since 2000, and replacement of T-T faculty with part-time instructors is what’s allowed universities to serve ever-larger numbers of students. UIS has FEWER faculty per admin. than cited in this Chronicle article. In other words, the situation is WORSE at UIS than depicted in this report. Summary here: http://chronicle.com/article/Administrator-Hiring-Drove-28-/144519/

Isn’t it time UIS faculty had a seat at the table, to reign in administrative hiring and keep the priority on direct instruction costs?

Only a union will give us that!
